Key Takeaways:

  • Murad Mahmudov’s memecoin holdings have fallen by 83.5% from their peak of $67 million to roughly $11 million.
  • On-chain data shows he continues holding his major memecoin positions.
  • The dramatic drop has raised questions about belief versus risk in memecoin investing.

Blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence has unveiled the extent of the assets drop in the portfolio of one of crypto’s best-known memecoin advocates, Murad Mahmudov. After a huge sell-off many traders would have pulled out, but Mahmudov seems determined to ride it out of the dip.

Arkham Data Shows Massive Drawdown

During the memecoin craze last year, Arkham Intelligence estimates Mahmudov’s portfolio peaked at $67 million. Since then his assets have decreased to approximately $11 million, a drop of 83.5%.

The results indicate that Mahmudov has preserved a lot of his positions from the peak of the memecoin cycle. He still has a big exposure in speculative assets, and the overwhelming majority of his portfolio is in SPX6900.

Other holdings reportedly comprises tokens like GIGA, POPCAT, MOG and RETARDIO, as well as a relatively small Bitcoin allocation.

The price drop was likely driven by the broader market slowdown in the meme coin and crypto market as many of the high-flying tokens have shed significant value since their run-ups.

Murad Sticks to His Conviction Strategy

Mahmudov built a large following by promoting the idea that memecoins could become one of the strongest-performing sectors during the crypto bull market.

Rather than actively trading market swings, he has repeatedly encouraged investors to develop conviction and hold positions through volatility. His philosophy, which is deeply rooted in the notion of long-term narratives rather than short-term price fluctuations, gained global traction especially during the memecoin craze.

No Signs of Major Capitulation

One thing that’s notable about the new portfolio update is that there don’t seem to be any big sell-offs.

Despite billions in market cap being decimated, Mahmudov still has assets with big corrections from their peaks. This is what supporters consider consistency, between his public statements and his investment behavior.

But critics say that not cutting exposure after an 83% decline is exposing the risks of emotional attachment to speculative investments.

Crypto Community Split Over the Outcome

The new data have attracted a lot of debate from investors and traders.

Mahmudov’s approach is viewed by some as a testament to a level of unwavering conviction in a market that is often run by short-term speculators. Some interpret the drop in the portfolio as proof that even high-profile crypto celebrities can’t escape the risk and volatility of memecoins.

The episode’s also a reminder of the fact that fortunes can easily change in the business. If the momentum subsides, tokens that produce life changing gains during the bull market can have equally dramatic reversals.

Right now, though, on-chain data indicates that Mahmudov is sticking to the same playbook that initially fueled his growth, he is simply waiting for the next market phase.
